ChatGPT's 'Strawberry' Could Launch Early—Plus More!
Hi there.
This week, I’m diving into OpenAI’s upcoming ‘Strawberry’ model that’s almost here, how a man pulled in $10M using AI-generated fake music, and the launch of the iPhone 16 with Apple Intelligence. Plus, why embracing discomfort could be the key to unlocking your best life. Let’s dive in…

iPhone 16 with Apple Intelligence Is Here!
Apple has announced the iPhone 16, powered by the new A18 chip and enhanced with a suite of Apple Intelligence (AI) features that aim to transform user interactions. The device includes AI-driven tools for rewriting emails and notes, creating custom emojis, and smart editing anywhere you type. For photos and videos, users can leverage natural language search to find specific content instantly. The AI also helps manage focus by summarizing emails and notifications to highlight what matters most. The new camera system uses on-device AI to analyze images without storing them and connects smoothly to third-party tools like ChatGPT. Siri has been upgraded to understand complex natural language requests better, provide context-aware answers, and perform actions on command. This marks a significant leap for Apple, integrating generative AI directly into its ecosystem and redefining the user experience on a fundamental level.
Meet the AI Model That Learns and Self-Corrects in Real-Time
HyperWrite’s new AI model, Reflection 70B, is making waves for its innovative approach to addressing one of the biggest challenges in AI: hallucinations. Built on Meta’s open-source LLaMA model, Reflection 70B introduces "reflection-tuning," a groundbreaking error-trapping system that allows the AI to recognize and correct its mistakes in real-time, rather than relying on post-training corrections.
Instead of directly outputting answers, Reflection 70B uses distinct phases: <thinking> for reasoning, <reflection> for revising errors, and <output> for refined responses. This allows the model to self-correct and reduce hallucinations effectively.
This method has led to significant improvements over models like GPT-4, allowing Reflection 70B to achieve top scores in benchmarks such as MMLU and MATH. Reflection 70B represents a major step forward in the evolution of AI, posing a serious challenge to other generative models like ChatGPT and Google Gemini.
Man Arrested After Making $10M From Fake AI-Generated Music
The U.S. government has arrested Michael Smith, a 52-year-old man from North Carolina, for allegedly generating over $10 million by using AI to create fake music and manipulating streaming numbers. Smith uploaded AI-generated songs with fake artist names to platforms like Spotify, Apple Music, and Amazon Music, and then used more than 10,000 fake accounts to inflate streams and earn royalties. This operation reportedly began in earnest in 2019, allowing Smith to boast about making $12 million from the scheme. Despite occasional flags from streaming platforms, much of his AI-generated music remains online, disguised in compilations. Smith faces charges of wire fraud and money laundering conspiracy, carrying a potential 20-year prison sentence. This case underscores how AI is being used to exploit various industries, with the music sector now grappling with new forms of digital fraud.
OpenAI’s ‘Strawberry’ Model Is Almost Here
OpenAI is reportedly set to release its new reasoning-focused AI model, "Strawberry," in ChatGPT within the next two weeks, ahead of its original fall timeline. Unlike typical AI models that respond instantly, Strawberry takes 10-20 seconds to generate a reply, aiming to improve complex query handling without the need for specialized prompts like “chain-of-thought-prompting.” The initial version will focus solely on text input and output, distinguishing it from multimodal AI models. While early testers noted that Strawberry's responses are only slightly better than GPT-4, the added wait time raises questions about whether the improvement is significant enough. If Strawberry delivers on its promise, it could excel in both objective tasks like coding and subjective ones like product marketing, potentially expanding the practical uses of AI. However, whether it meets the hype remains to be seen.
