Anthropic's Claude 3.5 Sonnet Outperforms OpenAI's GPT-4o on Benchmarks
Anthropic has introduced Claude 3.5 Sonnet, a new and upgraded AI model that surpasses rivals like GPT-4o and its predecessor Opus across key benchmarks with significant speed boosts and cost reductions. The 3.5 Sonnet model is twice as fast as Opus and has token pricing at one-fifth the cost of Anthropic’s previous top-tier model. It outperforms Opus and GPT-4o in reasoning, code, math, and knowledge benchmarks. Additionally, a new feature called ‘Artifacts’ allows users to view, edit, and build with Claude in a real-time side panel workspace. Anthropic also announced that 3.5 versions of Haiku and Opus will be released later this year, along with new features like Memory. After GPT-4o briefly held the top spot in the LLM leaderboard, Anthropic’s latest upgrade with 3.5 Sonnet appears to reclaim the throne, highlighting the rapid advancement in AI models and positioning 3.5 Sonnet as a leader in the field.
Ex-OpenAI Chief Scientist Ilya Sutskever Launches Research-Focused Safe AI Company
Ilya Sutskever has launched a new AI venture, Safe Superintelligence (SSI), dedicated to developing safe and powerful superintelligence. This announcement comes just a month after his official departure from OpenAI. Co-founded by Sutskever, former Y Combinator partner Daniel Gross, and ex-OpenAI engineer Daniel Levy, SSI aims to create beneficial superintelligent AI, which Sutskever believes could emerge within a decade. Unlike OpenAI's focus on commercial products, SSI will be a pure research organization, fully insulated from short-term business pressures. Although funding details have not been disclosed, Gross stated that raising capital will not be an issue. This move marks a significant shift following Sutskever's departure from OpenAI and indicates his vision for a new, safety-focused path to superintelligence, with ample support for funding and talent.
Toys "R" Us Pushes Boundaries with Controversial AI Promo
Toys "R" Us made waves at the Cannes Lions Festival with a promo film created almost entirely using artificial intelligence. Partnering with creative agency Native Foreign, they used OpenAI's unreleased text-to-video tool, Sora, to bring the 66-second story of founder Charles Lazarus and the company's mascot Geoffrey the Giraffe to life. While some on social media found the result unsettling, others see it as a glimpse into the future of filmmaking. This technology, capable of generating realistic videos with characters and detailed backgrounds based on text prompts, has the potential to revolutionize the entertainment industry.
