Neuralink Implants First Brain Chip in Human
Neuralink achieved a major breakthrough by implanting its first brain-computer interface (BCI) in a human, a key development in its clinical trial for individuals with paralysis. The BCI, inserted with a custom robot, aims to enable device control through thought alone.
Initial success in neuron detection is promising, though the long-term safety and broader benefits are still being studied. Neuralink's vision extends beyond assisting the disabled, envisioning neural "telepathy" for enhanced human capabilities.
OpenAI Announces ‘GPT Mentions’
OpenAI quietly introduced 'GPT mentions', a powerful feature for ChatGPT that allows users to integrate custom bots seamlessly into conversations by tagging them with '@.'
When accessed during chats, it streamlines workflows, reducing the need to navigate the GPT Store. This update, slowly rolling out to premium users, enables the integration of multiple GPTs in a single chat, bringing users closer to a collaborative AI environment where expert agents work together effortlessly – just an '@' away.
Google Introduces Lumiere, a Multimodal AI Video Model
Google introduced Lumiere, an AI model revolutionizing video generation. Using an advanced "space-time" neural network, Lumiere creates 5-second video clips in a single pass, ensuring consistency and reducing choppiness. It can generate videos from text prompts, animate still images, and perform video inpainting and style cloning. This marks a significant leap in AI video generation, promising ongoing advancements in 2024.
Kin.art’s New Tool Prevents GenAI Models From Training on Artwork
Kin.art introduced a free tool to safeguard artists' rights against unauthorized use of generative AI models like Midjourney and OpenAI's DALL-E 3. Using image segmentation and tag randomization, the tool subtly alters images, preventing AI models from training on them without permission.
This philanthropic effort, led by Kin.art's co-founder Flor Ronsmans De Vry, aims to empower artists by providing free protection. Their vision includes offering the tool to third parties, highlighting the critical role of defending data in the AI era.
Samsung Builds Chip Factories Run Completely by AI
Samsung Electronics is embarking on an ambitious project to fully automate its chip factories by 2030, relying entirely on artificial intelligence (AI) and eliminating the need for human involvement.
Samsung has been actively integrating AI into chip design and production from last year. The ongoing initiative aims to leverage AI across various stages of chip manufacturing: integrated circuit (IC) design, materials development, production processes, yield enhancement, and packaging.
