Tyler Perry Halts $800M Studio Expansion After Seeing OpenAI’s Sora
Hollywood director Tyler Perry has reportedly decided to postpone an $800 million expansion of his film studios due to a surprising factor: OpenAI’s new video model “Sora”. Perry has expressed his concerns over the potential widespread adoption of such advanced AI tools in the entertainment industry. This could lead to significant job losses, affecting roles such as writing, video production, and special effects. The director also talked about the lack of regulatory measures to protect workers who might face displacement due to such technology.
OpenAI’s launching a New Mysterious Platform Feather?
Rumors surfaced online regarding a new LLM from OpenAI named "Feather." An OpenAI webpage was discovered, along with a patent filing suggesting the trademark's focus on data labeling and annotation services, possibly used by contractors labeling data for AI model training. Attempts to log in resulted in an "unauthenticated user" message. While anticipation is high for a new open-source model from OpenAI, it appears Feather may be an older service associated with data sets for enterprise partners. Google Pauses AI Image Generation After Backlash
Google has temporarily halted Gemini’s ability to generate images of people after criticism by users for overcorrecting diversity. Users reported inaccuracies like difficulty in generating historical images and creating diverse images of US founding fathers. Google acknowledged the issues, expressing the importance of diversity but admitting they might have overdone it. Issues like this expose the biases and control an individual or a company has and how it negatively impacts the world’s views. This can be a sign of how much work is needed to make AI as neutral and impartial as possible.
Google Unveils Genie, Image to Game Generation
Google Deepmind introduced Genie, an AI model capable of creating interactive video games from just text or image prompts. It is trained on over 200,000 hours of unlabeled 2D game videos and can learn game controls from them. The most remarkable ability is Genie’s ability to identify the main character and enable users to control the generated world. Although currently limited to 1FPS and available for research purposes only, Genie hints at a future where crafting entirely imagined virtual worlds becomes accessible to everyone.
